Petal Plate: A Tribute to Korean Tradition

Inspired by 16th-century Joseon Dynasty Buncheong pottery, this plate carries the charm of Korea’s rich ceramic tradition. The soft, creamy surface is beautifully adorned with iron-painted (Cheolhwa) floral vines, gracefully wrapping around the center, where the ancient city "Gongju" (公州) is inscribed—a tribute to its deep historical roots.

Designed as a dessert plate, it adds an elegant touch to any table setting. But its charm goes beyond functionality. When arranged with other plates, it transforms into a stunning wall décor piece, bringing a sense of serenity and artistry to any space.

For effortless display, a discreet hole on the back allows for easy wall mounting with a string, seamlessly blending practicality with aesthetic versatility.

About the Artist

Jungwoo Kim is a ceramic artist dedicated to reviving the essence of Joseon-era Buncheong pottery. Inspired by nature, he meticulously studies and blends different types of clay to capture the raw energy of the earth in his works. His pottery reflects the bold and spontaneous spirit of traditional Korean artisans while carrying a unique contemporary sensibility.

Kim primarily illustrates flowers and vines using iron-painted designs, but he also has a deep affection for whimsical birds. His drawings are intentionally rough and simple, sometimes resembling the pure, unfiltered expressions of a child. This combination of unrefined texture and naive charm gives his work an intriguing duality—both familiar and exotic.
